In late October 2009, we began to search for a second home to purchase. We finally found the home we wanted, and Ann Arbor Mortgage assisted us with the financing of the purchase. Bill and his staff made the progression of the mortgage application and paperwork an easy process for us. There were some glitches in the information needed from us and these were taken care of in a timely and efficient manner. We had not applied for a mortgage in almost 30 years and the amount of paperwork involved is not at all what we remembered. We made several phone calls to your office and they were promptly responded to and our questions answered. We appreciate Kristen handling the e-mails to us and keeping track of all the paperwork involved. We closed on the house on December 8, 2009; and everything at closing went smoothly and efficiently as we expected it would. As first time home buyers, we didn't know a thing about how to begin the process. Bill was the first person I talked to when we first had the idea to start looking for a house. He was very patient to answer all of my questions and even suggested a great Realtor. Bill was quick to return a pre-approval amount and was thorough enough to help us understand the difference between how much we were approved for and how much we actually wanted to spend by breaking down the numbers into an estimate of our monthly payment. Throughout the whole process, Bill kept on top of our situation and always kept us informed of what was going on. Pete thoroughly impressed me with his approach to teaching and his ability to inspire people to grow. In the "How to Buy a House"class he presents, his goal is to empower people with knowledge so that they can head into this confusing and typically intimidating process with much less fear. He presents the information without a sales pitch or making you feel like you owe him something for his time. He also offers to set up appointments to meet with anyone in the class to continue the education. He will happily print and go over your credit report, free of charge, often taking 1-2 hours of his personal time with no expectation of return. Let's just say I am not the easiest of clients to work for. Probably a headache. My schedule is nearly impossible to open any large amount of time for meetings, and Candace was willing to accomodate that with late night calls, very early morning meetings, and even while she was on vacation. Candace stuck through it all. It was obvious she made it personal to get me exactly what I wanted. With every wall we came up against, she found some way to get me through it. Bill did a fantastic job on getting my wife and I a mortgage on the beautiful old home we recently purchased in Ann Arbor. Pete Stegler is, without a doubt, one of the world’s best Mortgage Loan Officers. I am unable to adequately articulate how wonderful Pete Stegler has been to my husband and me. In short- Pete epitomizes trustworthiness, dedication, and reliability. For us, Pete went from being someone in the mortgage business, to being a trusted friend. He was a joy to work with, and we look forward to working with him in the future.
To start, Pete spent over four hours with us on first time home buyer education, thoroughly reviewing the vast influx of new vocabulary, paperwork, and mounds of information. In the following weeks he answered 100’s of my questions and concerns, even going over a competitors GFE with me… line by line. He has the patience of Job, and I do not say that lightly. He will truly work to look out for your best interest. Throughout the 6 month process Pete called us weekly, and as we got close to closing, daily. He was proactive and realistic about the many possible situations that may have arisen- keeping us well informed. He made sure, very early on that we did everything that underwriters could possibly request in order to ensure a smooth close. One of the most meaningful things about Pete- is that he truly appreciates what buying a house is like for his client. He knows that buying a house can be stressful and It wasn’t uncommon for him to stop mid conversation and ask me plainly “How are you doing, how are you really feeling about this?” As with many new construction closings ours was delayed, leaving us potentially homeless. Pete went above and beyond to get us into our house before we had to move out of our apartment, working diligently with underwriting and our builder to make it happen. We have already, and will continue to recommend Pete to anyone. We loved working with him, and often joke about how much we miss talking with our “mortgage guy”… honestly!
